Dee Why Chiropractor Treatments

Frequently asked questions

At Sydney Spine & Sports Centre (S3C), we are happy to answer all your questions. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions that our chiropractors get. If you have another question about chiropractic or musculoskeletal conditions, please contact us and we will be happy to help.

What is a chiropractor

Chiropractors treat a wide range of problems from a stiff back to sore shoulders to herniated intervertebral discs. They are health professionals who:

  • diagnose and treat musculoskeletal pain (spine, muscles, joints)
  • restore lost function to muscles and joints following injuries, illnesses and conditions
  • treat the whole person, injured area and affected areas
  • explain your diagnosis, treatment plan and prognosis following injury
  • focus on non-surgical treatments
  • have a clinical focus on prevention, not just treatment.

What are the goals of chiropractic?

The goal of a chiropractor is to reduce pain and enhance function and performance. Chiropractors take time to find the cause and source of your pain.

Our aim is for you to self-manage your own pain. We do this by developing self-management treatment plans for you to do at home or under the guidance of a chiropractor in the clinic.

Should I see a chiropractor forever?

No, you don’t have to see a chiropractor forever. However, it is a good idea to see one when you begin a new sport, change the physical requirements of your job, or feel stiffness, tightness or pain in your joints and muscles. Our chiropractors will provide you with self-management treatment strategies so that you can help manage your own pain safely and effectively at home.

Is chiropractic safe?

Absolutely. Chiropractic care is a safe approach to health, injury and pain that avoids invasive surgery and procedures. The chiropractors at Sydney Spine & Sports Centre (S3C) are highly skilled and qualified, with years of training and experience.

All our practitioners are registered with the Chiropractic Board of Australia, which requires them to meet strict registration standards to practice and understand the musculoskeletal system. All treatments and approaches practised at Sydney Spine & Sports Centre (S3C), are evidence-based supported by the latest research.

When it comes to chiropractic, your safety is our priority so please ask any questions.

What should I expect at my first consultation?

At your first consultation, our chiropractors will ask a range of questions, including the reason for your visit and your medical history. They will also relieve any pain you are in.

They aim to make a diagnosis and develop a treatment plan that is customised to your specific injury. Our chiropractors are here to help, so please ask questions.

Do I need a referral?

No, you do not need a referral. Feel free to come in and see one of our chiropractors at any time. However, if you have hurt yourself at work and want to claim the cost of your treatment through Workcover, or see one of our chiropractors under the Enhanced Primary Care Program (EPC) you will need a referral from your GP.

What should I wear to my consultation?

Wear comfortable clothing to your consultation. We also provide towels and gowns to more easily assess and treat your injured area. Your privacy and comfort are important to us and you are protected at all times.

How long are the consultations?

Depending on the treatment you need, our consultations are from 20 – 45 minutes. All consultations are one-on-one.

Can a pregnant woman see a practitioner?

Absolutely. If you are pregnant you can come and see us. Our chiropractors have treated many pregnant women during different stages of their pregnancy. All our treatment and approaches are evidence-based, safe, gentle and customised to meet the needs of the patient.

Can a child see a practitioner?

Yes, our chiropractors have treated people of all age groups, including children. In our care, we hope to diagnose any pain or injury related conditions to avoid problems later in life during adolescence and adulthood. When treating a child, we customise our approach to what the child requires, to their height, their weight and body structure. All our treatment and approaches are evidence-based, safe and gentle.

Can I make on the spot claims? Do you have HICAP facilities?
