Cervical bulging disc

Bulging disc is a term used to describe intervertebral discs that have moved (bulged out) from where they normally sit. Bulging discs as a conceptual point have been squashed just like a flat tyre. This occurs to varying degrees. A bulging disc is not a disc herniation. Bulging discs are common and occur with age. We can all expect minor bulging through the discs of our spine as we age. In most minor cases this is not a problem. In advanced cases with significant bulging, this can become problematic and cause neck pain and dysfunction.

Symptoms

Minor bulging of discs is usually asymptomatic. When associated with degeneration disc may produce pain called discogenic pain. If bulging is significant this can place pressure on the spinal cord or spinal nerves and nerve pain may result. The symptoms are variable.
