Calf muscle tear
Calf muscle tears are also called calf muscle strains. They are graded on a scale of one (I) to three (III). Grade III is the most severe.
Calf muscle strains and tears are often the result of sports or running injuries. Large forces are typically needed to tear muscle fibres located in the calf muscles. Strains can be acute (sudden) or occur over time (chronic)
Pain and difficulty moving the calf muscles are the two most common symptoms. Walking is difficult, particularly when standing on the toes.
Treatment for calf muscle strains is centred around reducing pain and restoring the normal function to the calf muscle. Exercises to restore strength to the muscle are very important. Contact the S3C sports chiropractors and physiotherapists for more information.
