Neck pain explained

Many people experience pain or stiffness in their neck. Neck pain varies from minor pain to more severe pain that can impact daily routine, such as sleep. In some cases, although rare, neck pain can be a sign of a more serious illness or injury and requires immediate care and treatment.

If you experience severe neck pain for more than a week and you have associated symptoms such as numbness, tingling, headaches or dizziness, we recommend you see a physiotherapist, chiropractor, or other healthcare practitioner to seek treatment.

The neck explained

The neck, also known as cervical spine, is made up of nerves, bones, joints and muscles controlled by the brain and directed by the spinal cord. It is designed for strength, nerve communication and stability. Within your neck, the bones, muscles and ligaments support your head and allow for motion. While cervical discs absorb shock between the bones.
